PTFE Coated Fiberglass Tapes

PRECISIONTAPE™: Non-Stock, Heat-Resistant Performance in an Easy-To-Use PTFE Tape

Our PRECISIONTAPE™ PTFE tape, or tape, combines the heat tolerance and release characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene (a.k.a. PTFE) with the strength and dimensional stability of fiberglass. This self-adhesive tape, often referred to as adhesive tape, provides maximum ease of application.

PRECISIONTAPE™ is available in two adhesive formulations:

  • Acrylic PTFE Tape: highly persistent adhesion at room temperature; able to withstand intermittent temperatures between -100° and 275°F (-73° and 135°C).
  • Silicone PTFE Tape: adheres readily to heated surfaces; repositionable without residue; able to tolerate constant ambient temperatures from -100° to 500°F (-73° to 260°C).

PRECISIONTAPE™ PTFE tape is non-toxic, odorless, tasteless, and is FDA compliant (21 CFR 177.1150) for use in food processing, packaging, and handling. PRECISIONTAPE™ is made from non-woven fiberglass cloth coated with PTFE, a combination that deliver excellent dimensional stability, tensile strength, and durability, as well as extremely low elongation (<1%).

Additionally, this PTFE coating gives PRECISIONTAPE™ several performance advantages. PTFE has a very low coefficient of friction, giving the non-adhesive side an extremely smooth, non-stick surface. High heat resistance, chemical inertness, and outstanding hydrophobic and dielectric properties help make PRECISIONTAPE™ the perfect solution for numerous applications.

Heat Sealing Application Spotlight

Application challenge: the fusion of two or more layers of plastic packaging films by the application of heat, generally to close a package. Easy release of plastics from the heat-seal band, bar, or platen is critically important to prevent damage to the seal, contamination of the seal bar, and constriction of product movement through the sealing process.

Solution: PRECISIONTAPE™ PTFE tape placed over the heat-seal band. When used in conjunction with precise time and temperature control, PRECISIONTAPE will achieve satisfactory release of the plastic material after heat-sealing. Proper time and temperature are both critical; even the finest PTFE products may stick if the temperature is too low or the heat-seal jaw is opened before or after the optimum cycle time.
